As if I didn't know Janice!

Abstract:
I did stuff around my apartment. I met up with Janice. I went to the store. I helped Janice move stuff. Some things only Harry Potter can fix.

I was surprised that I didn't have any trouble waking up this morning. I thought that the fact that I had been waking up late and the time difference would kill me. I think the fact that my room is really sunny helped, though.

I spent the morning doing some stuff around my apartment that I had to do. I did some cleaning and sent some emails. I also made sure to fill out my form for receiving my loans so that I don't have to worry about that any more. Plus I had to renew my contract for unilodge and I managed to go there when there wasn't anyone waiting at the counter. This was surprising because today was the final move out day for everyone moving out and move in day for the people that were in unilodge but just changed rooms. So there were a lot of people and a lot of chaos happening.

Then I made myself some lunch. I had some semi-freezer burnt chicken that I cooked up. Other than fish and hot sauce, that was about all I had in my fridge and freezer. Then I cleaned my fridge, really exciting, I know.

After that, I was going to go to the store. I went downstairs to meet up with Janice, who was checking in to Davey. Heesook, who she is getting a 2 person flat with, was moving from another unilodge, so she could move in today. They still weren't able to check in when I went down because they were still cleaning it, so I went to the store by myself. It was hilarious when I got downstairs, though. Janice ran to me when she saw me. Then she was holding the door and I hugged Heesook before her and she got jealous. Heesook was also joking that she thought that I had never met Janice. It was funny. Everyone thinks we're like attached or something. I think Janice was dying without me.

Next I went to the store. Nothing too exciting there. I bought stuff. It was heavy and hot when I was walking home. It was kind of weird to go shopping again. I felt like it was the first time that I went by myself again since it had been so long because I was at the Curries'.

I put away my groceries and watched Law and Order: SVU while eating some frozen grapes to cool down. I think that those got a little freezer-burnt too.

Later Janice knocked on my door. She was moving stuff from the room where Hui Ling is staying into her new place. She wanted to say hi or something. I then went to help her bring her stuff down. She had a trolley, so that made it easier. Her new apartment is kind of like a studio but for two people. It's kind of weird. When we were done moving her stuff out, they both came over to my flat. We talked quite a bit about visas. It reminded me that I still need to figure that out. Oops. Being an international student sucks. We're basically all trying to find a way to stay here before our visas end. Now it's crunch time!

When they left, I cooked some wings. I was also in a weird mood. A mood that only watching Harry Potter could help. Sadly I don't have my movies, so I had to find some dodgy site online. I hate doing that all the time, but I really needed some Harry Potter time. I watched Deathly Hallows part 1 and it was great. Now it's really late and I need to go to bed or I will have major issues trying to get adjusted to the time difference.

Gone!

Abstract:
There were planes and then I was back home to Canberra.

Our flight was at 10ish, so I had to be up and ready to go by 8:30. Rohan's grandma came over to say good-bye. Today was also Elise's birthday, so she opened some presents before we left. Then we said good-bye to Justine, because she couldn't go to the airport because she had to work, and to Jasmine. Then the rest of us headed to the airport.

There were some traffic jams, but it worked out fine. When we went to check in, we figured out what the issue was online. Rohan was in fact moved to a different flight from Sydney to Canberra, but they never sent him any email or anything that told him of the change. I'm not sure what the deal was with my flight, but they were able to work it out so that we were on the same flight, which was the later one. We got our boarding passes and checked in, then we went through security. Rohan's family went through security with us. Naxtens also showed up at that point. Rohan invited a few of his friends to the airport to see him off, but Naxtens was the only one that was able to come. Oh and I didn't have to go through the security screening like five times because I kept forgetting stuff. I'm making progress.

After security, we went to get breakfast. I was pretty hungry, so I got a bagel with cream cheese while everyone else just got drinks. I don't know what was the problem, but my bagel took a long time. I barely had time to put the cream cheese on and take a few bites before I had to put it away to board the flight. We hugged everyone good-bye. Well, Rohan was so focused on leaving that he almost forgot until his mum caught his attention. Rohan just doesn't get emotional and I don't understand it. I felt emotional for him. (And in case anyone was wondering, I don't think his mum cried. At least not when we were still there.)

As we were got our boarding passes scanned, Rohan got Naxtens' attention and flashed his driver's license. Yup, Rohan has it. He kept it a secret just for that one moment. (It's too bad that more of his friends weren't there.) And it was worth all of that lying. Naxten's expression was hilarious. He looked so confused and just said "What?!" like three times, possibly more, but we were already down the terminal boarding the plane by then. Rohan is so evil, but that's one of the reasons that I love him so much.

The flight to Sydney was fine. I'm not really phased by four hour flights after all of my flights between America and Australia. I mostly listened to my new Glee songs and slept. I was really tired. There was also a screaming 2 year old on our flight. Would you believe that it was my first flight with a screaming child on it?

We had quite a long layover in Sydney. It was like 2.5 hours since we got moved to the later flight. We walked around for a bit, then stayed by the table with outlets, then sat down since there were no chairs by the outlets. Nothing too excited.

The exciting bit was when we tried to get on the flight. I gave the flight attendant my boarding pass to scan, but it flashed red and beeped from error. Apparently my seat was moved and she had to reprint the boarding pass. Then she tried scanning that one, but it didn't work either. She just ended up doing it manually or something. Rohan's seat was also changed to be next to me, so that was good. The flight wasn't bad, but it's also less than an hour. It's basically just up and back down. But Rohan did manage to draw on my face during that flight and then proceed to smear his saliva all over my cheek to get the ink off. Isn't he such a sweetheart? (I just had to add that point because I told him that I would and I wouldn't mention that he spilled his juice on himself. Oh wait, I just mentioned that. Oops. :P )

We got to Canberra. I was cold. There was barely any luggage that came out or it was gone by the time we got there, so we got ours right away. Then we grabbed a taxi. Rohan's mum was trying to pay me back for the food that one time that I cooked when Rohan's parents were gone, but I refused. Instead, we used that money for the taxi. He dropped off Rohan at his hotel first and then he dropped me off. (So does the fact that Rohan now lives in Canberra and we're not long distance make us a normal couple? Haha no! Who am I kidding? It's still Rohan and me. In no way are we normal.)

It was weird to be back home. My flat looks empty. I know for sure that one of my flatmates has moved out. Her door is open and the room has been cleared except for the mattress pad in a bag that they give people when they move in, so I'm expecting someone else to move in. I'm not sure about the other girl, though. The door on her room was closed, but the apartment seems empty. There's still a few things around that aren't mine, but not very many things.

Not much else happened. Janice was suppose to buy me wings earlier today before the stores closed and then come over so that I could cook them, but she wasn't able to get the wings and she didn't come over. Instead I unpacked some of my stuff and cooked some fish that I had in my freezer. I actually cleaned out some of my stuff in the freezer because my (former?) roommates threw away their stuff so I could see in there. I had quite a few things that had freezer-burn. Oops. Well that was my night, but I should get to bed so that I can get used to this time zone again. G'night!

Going... going...

Abstract:
The packers came. Rohan finished getting everything together. We went out for a celebratory dinner.

I was exhausted when I had to get up, so I immediately went to the couch in the family room and fell asleep there. I was in a pretty deep sleep when Rohan asked me for help, but I woke up and helped him get some final things ready for the packers anyway.

The packers came around 1:00 I think. Shortly after, Rohan's mum and Justine came back with lunch. We kind of all wanted different stuff. I had KFC. I watched some Glee with Elise and Justine while we ate. I probably helped Rohan some more. I don't remember.

Later, Rohan had a dentist appointment. Elise went to drop him off and then she was going to the bank. I went with them so that I could go to EB and get something for Rohan. He gave me a sticky note with what I was supposed to get, so I literally just gave it to the guy working there and told him that's what I needed. I don't know much about games, so that was my best bet. Plus no one else was in the store and he knew what I needed.

Elise and I went back home after that. I caught up on my blog posts. The movers were actually done when we got back. I was surprised. Apparently before they came they thought that it would be a nice small job. They realised that they were wrong when they got here. Admittedly  though, they should have realised it when Rohan sent them the inventory and said that he needed 40 of the book boxes. It was also hilarious to hear some of the comments that they had to Rohan during the day saying things along the lines of "I guess someone likes gaming." That was quite obvious judging from the amount of games and gaming systems that he has.

Rohan's mum went to pick him up when he was done with his dentist appointment. When they got back, they also had his grandma and we went to dinner. We met up with some other people there, but I forgot to ask Rohan who they were and I don't think anyone told me. We ate at the buffet thingy at The Esplanade in Fremantle. The food was pretty good.

We were there until about 9:30, at which point we went to drop off Rohan's grandma and go home. We tried to check-in to our flights, but it was messed up. When we logged onto my flight, it wouldn't let us pick a seat for the second leg and therefore we couldn't check in. Then we tried to check Rohan in, but the second leg for the flight was listed as a different one from his itinerary and therefore my flight. Hopefully we'll get it all sorted out when we get to the airport tomorrow.

After the check-in issues, I took a shower and packed up all of my stuff and moved my pillow and such to the other room where Rohan was staying. I told him that he could have his room and bed back for his last night at home. I promised that before we got here and he tried to say no yesterday, but I insisted. I mean it's his last night living at home!

Now I'm just trying to charge all of my stuff in case I want to use it tomorrow. Yay charging stuff. I'm also getting new songs for my zune. Yay new songs! I hope that my stuff charges and songs download quickly because I want to go to bed. I have to wake up early tomorrow. I guess I can sleep on the plane, though. G'night!

On this episode of Hoarders...

Abstract:
I spent the day helping Rohan get ready for the movers to come tomorrow.

I had to get up at a reasonable time so that Rohan could work on packing up the stuff in his room. The packers were coming the next day. (Ignore the weird tenses because I'm actually writing this after they came.) I spent much of the morning moving crap into the front room or the study. Then I helped Rohan with the stuff in his room. He was putting his stuff from the display cabinet in bags and I was labelling them.

Then we had lunch. We had pizzas. Mine kind of exploded. By which I mean that the cheese kind of melted all over and didn't stay on the pizza so I had to put it back together to eat it. Then I spent the afternoon taking Rohan's pins off of his pin board and putting them in a bag. He has a lot of pins.

Around dinner time, Rohan's DnD, Dungeons and Dragons for the less nerdy of my readers, came over for their last game. I spent some time in the kitchen with Rohan's mum when they first got there, but then it was dinner time, so I went out there and sat by Rohan to eat. His mum made one of Rohan's favourite dishes because it was the last time that she was cooking for him. It was salmon and some kind of broth thing. I normally don't like salmon, but it's growing on me. Then I kind of watched Rohan and his friends play DnD but I kind of just pet Jasmine or went on pinterest on my phone while sitting on the couch near them.

When his friends left, Rohan worked some more on packing. While he was cleaning, he found the journal that his mum made him keep while they were visiting the UK back in 2005. Rohan made the mistake of giving it to me and saying that I could look at it. For some crazy reason, I don't think he expected me to actually read it as much as I did. You'd think that he would know me better by now! It was really funny because some of the things he said I could totally see him saying now. It really caught me off guard, though, when he said that he didn't like the rain and wished that it would be sunny because he was cold. That's a complete 180 from how he is now!

Rohan was packing until the wee hours of the morning. It was nearly 3am by the time that he cleaned enough stuff out of his room, where I'm staying, and moved stuff off of the bed so that I could go to sleep. He stayed up past that, but I was falling asleep so I had to go to bed instead of helping some more.

And the title is a reference to how much crap he has! It's crazy!

The sounds of "Rohan's people"

Abstract:
We went to church, which was also a good-bye service to one of their pastors. I felt sick. We went out to dinner. I watched Rohan pack some more.

I woke up pretty early to get to church. It was the last time that the whole family could go to church together before Rohan left. Church was also a good-bye service for one of the pastors and his wife. The pastor's name was Alastair so Rohan's mum kept joking that the good-bye was actually for Rohan since that's his middle name, but they forgot to put Rohan in front of it. After the church part of it, they had a good-bye ceremony where people talked and such. For the beginning and end, they had someone playing bagpipes since the pastor is Scottish. When we first heard the bagpipes, Rohan told me to listen to the sounds of his people. Rohan tries to say that he's Scottish just because his dad was born there. I keep telling him that he's Australian.

The good-bye thing was also followed by a lunch and desserts. A lot of people came up to Rohan to say one last good-bye to him as well since it was the last time that many of them would see him, at least for quite a while until he comes back for holidays or something.

When we got home from church, I took a really long nap. I thought that I was just tired because I hadn't slept well the night before, but I didn't feel well when I woke up. I spent the next few hours laying on the couch while watching Rohan sort through stuff. I felt really, really hot, which is extremely weird for me because I'm always freezing. I didn't feel sick other than being hot, but there was no other explanation.

Then we went to some dumpling place for dinner. I guess that Rohan's parents went there the other day and Rohan was really jealous and wanted to try it before he left. When we got there, Rohan and I had to switch seats with Elise and Justine so that I could sit under the air conditioning because I was overheating. It was so weird. But I also discovered something else. I don't like dumplings. The stuff that they're wrapped in just reminded me of when you cut yourself and you have like a flap of skin hanging off. Why would you want to eat that? But they ordered other food as well, so I was fine.

When we got back, Rohan was sorting through some more papers. I started to feel a lot better and by the end of the night I felt completely better. Rohan had a bunch of old school stuff in his papers, which led to a really long discussion on the difference between school systems in Australia and America. So much of it didn't make sense to me, but then the stuff from the US made no sense to Rohan. I suppose the difference could be the reason that the US school system sucks so much. (*insert comment here saying that you should read the book That Used To Be Us, at least the chapters on the education system, because it was my favourite book that I read for class during my time at Hope and it shows just how much the US lags behind most other countries*. Australia was toward the top for the three things that were graphed while the US was at best in the middle of the list.)

We just worked on sorting through papers and talking about school systems until it was time to sleep.

My first Straya Day

Abstract:
Today was Australia Day! I basically spent the day with Rohan's mum.

Today was Australia Day. It's kind of like the Fourth of July except that it isn't at all. Instead of independence, which Australia only kind of has since it's part of the Commonwealth instead of its own country, Australia Day is a celebration of the anniversary of when ships first landed on the shore of modern-day Sydney. It's also not as celebrated as the Fourth of July in America. I guess Americans are more patriotic or something. There was no equivalent of the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest or anything. (That's totally the best part of the Fourth of July. Joey Chestnut FTW!) Also, in reference to the title, saying "Straya" for Australia is kind of like saying "Murica" for America.

Anyway, Rohan was having some friends over today for a marathon of some web-series thingy. Basically I knew that I wouldn't want to watch, so I took a long time getting up. I slept in late and then took my time getting up and showering and then I read. I finished Prisoner of Azkaban, though, so I had to get out of my room then.

Since Rohan was watching his show, I basically spent the day helping his mum. First I helped her in the kitchen a bit. Then she went to clean out the junk room some more. She made a lot of progress because now you can see the floor. I really love to organise and I found it hilarious to see some of the stuff that was in that room. She found the hair from Rohan's first hair cut and his birth announcement. She even found the seating arrangements from her wedding. Watching people go through old stuff is just really interesting to me and she was telling me all sorts of stories.

After she got sick of cleaning the junk room, we went out to work on dinner. Unfortunately that meant that we had to listen to Rohan's weird show. We were counting down to the end of it because it was quite weird. Anyway, back to dinner, she was making lamb and lemon potatoes. We ended up needing to go to the store. She wanted to get lamingtons at a bakery and then we went to IGA. We had to get some greens and we wanted to check to see if they had pavlova. We didn't see any, though. Instead, we went home and made it. Aussie day wouldn't be complete without pavlova, even if we did still have lamb and lamingtons, especially because I never had pavlova.

Pavlova doesn't seem too difficult to make, or at least there aren't many ingredients. There were some issues, though. The oven was too hot so it kind of got browned instead of being white. Then when she tried to whip the cream that she got today, it was curdled and there wasn't another one in the house.

We sat at the table to eat dinner. It was really good. I never had lamb before I was in Australia in 2010, but it's growing on me. The potatoes were also really good and we roasted some chillies with them. I ate two of the chillies and they were awesome. I definitely miss some spiciness to my meals and I think I'll be making some hot wings and enchiladas very soon after I get back to Canberra.

Then people scattered for a while before dessert. Rohan's mum got an email that was a "you know you're Australian when..." kind of thing, which she read aloud, and it was hilarious. I had to explain to Elise and Justine why some of them are weird to outsiders. In particular, the one that said it is perfectly normal to pack a rubber in your son's bag when he starts school. That's because in Australia a rubber is an eraser. That confused the heck out of me the first time that I was tutoring here and it still weirds me out to hear a small child talking about a rubber. I'm pretty sure that's the Aussie slang that will take me the longest to accept without second thought.

We ate dessert when everyone got together to watch White Collar. It's one of the few shows that they all watch and they were happy that they could finally watch it tonight, since Rohan was gone every night since this episode came out.

Since we didn't have any cream, I had ice cream with my pavlova. I also had passionfruit on it. It was the first time that I've ever had passionfruit. It was pretty good. The meringue-esque part of the pavolva was also good, to my surprise. I don't like meringues because of the texture, but pavlovas are only crispy on the outside but still squishy on the inside. I also had part of a lamington, but I don't like coconut, which causes issues. I just ate the cake, but I did try it with the chocolate and coconut first.

Then I watched Rohan play games, wrote my blog posts from yesterday and today, and now I'm going to bed. G'night!

25 January 2013

I don't have gills. That's Jillian.

Abstract:
I slept in. Then we went to a party and it was fun.

Since I was up until about 3:30am putting in the pre-order for Rohan, because I'm an amazing girlfriend, and talking to my mom and Jillian on facebook chat, I decided to sleep in. I was exhausted, especially after the anxiety that I had to go through trying to order the dang thing. I was all nervous that I wouldn't place the order in time because the website kept crashing. It was actually close. Rohan told me that they were all ordered within a half hour and I finally placed the order at 22 past.

Anyway, I eventually got up and Elise had some friends over. Elise, her friends, and Justine were playing some games. I decided to watch the new episode of Glee. I was all excited because one of Darren Criss' friends was also on this episode. (Darren is pretty famous, at least in the Harry Potter fandom, for playing Harry Potter in A Very Potter Musical. His friend that played Ron Weasley was one of the people in the NYADA Glee club.) Then I decided that I was still tired, so I went to take a nap.

I woke up from my nap just a few minutes before Rohan got home. I went out to greet him and he asked me what was wrong. I said that I was just tired because I just woke up. He looked at me like I was crazy. Then I quickly explained that I meant from a nap, not that I had just woken up for the day! It was quite hysterical, but I'm guessing that you had to be there to think it's funny.

Then we were going to a curry night at Scott's girlfriend Kate's house. Naxtens picked us up to go there. Well first we got Bek then we went down to Kate's house. Kate lives really far away and on like a farm or something. Their land is huge. Anyway, the title comes from something that I said on the way down when Rohan was covering my mouth when I was trying to say something about him or something. I told him that I couldn't really breathe, so he told me to breathe through my gills. Then I responded that I don't have gills, but Jillian does. It's funny since that's her married name and she has kids.

When we got there, we were just talking to people. It was a pretty big party, maybe 40-ish people. Actually, I have no idea how many were there because I couldn't be bothered counting. We just hung around and talked until the curry was done. Then we ate and it was yummy. I was happy because I normally don't really like curry. Also, Kate's family has three really cute dogs. Two are mid-large and one is tiny. One of the bigger dogs is also a 7 month old puppy. I was so happy to be able to pet her doggies.

After dinner, Rohan went inside to join Naxtens and Scott to try to get the projector to play movies. That's their idea of fun and I do have to admit that watching them try to figure it out was pretty entertaining. They were having all sorts of issues trying to get the computer to recognise the projector. The mac didn't recognise it at all when they plugged it in and the PC thought that it was a keyboard.

Then they tried to google stuff and the results were coming up in Spanish. I got to use some of my awesome Spanish skills to help them figure out what the heck the results said, but then Rohan realised that they could switch it back to English by changing the URL.

So anyway, the projector wouldn't work on that computer at all and they wanted to try to attach it to a DVD player instead. The problem was that the only one they could find was an external one that you attach to a computer, but then they had to get another mini laptop out. Then there were all sorts of issues with getting it set up in the correct spot and then getting it to actually play the DVD. Basically it was just issue after issue after issue.

Sometime after 10, the computer started to malfunction more and it was getting too late to start a movie, so they admitted defeat. It was really funny to watch the process, though. Also during that time, Rohan was singing some really weird songs, typical Rohan really, and it was the only time that the dog nearby responded. She always looked at him like he was crazy when he was singing. It was hilarious because I always tell him that he's going to make dogs howl with some of the notes that he attempts to sing.

Then some people played Munchkin. It's such a weird game and really kind of boring to me, especially because it's a really long game. I watched while I was curled up on the coach with a blanket on because I was cold. After the game was eventually over, we went back home. On the way home we almost ran into a kangaroo! Luckily Naxtens was able to swerve out of the way. Only in Australia!

Rohan has the most amazingest girlfriend ever!

I think that I basically spent the day reading today. I don't remember doing much else. We had dinner. Rohan left for a Bible study thing. I watched some tv with his mum and sisters. Then I read some more.

Now I'm staying up to fulfil my duties of being the best girlfriend ever. Rohan wanted to order some collector's edition thing for Doctor Who and the preorders start at 2am Perth time. He is working tomorrow and needed sleep, so he couldn't stay up himself. He asked me to do it and, since I'm usually up until at least one anyway, I am doing it.

I was hungry while staying up, so I went to my peanut butter jar to eat some. I opened the lid to find a bunch of little ants inside. I had broken the seal a couple of days ago to make the scotcheroos and I guess that they could smell it and get through the lid somehow. I was very upset because I wanted my American peanut butter. I think I'll have to try and make some scotcheroos with Aussie peanut butter to see if they still taste as good since Australian peanut butter has a different flavour than American peanut butter. I'm sure my dad would be able to detect the difference in the scotcheroos in a heartbeat. He's kind of a guru when it comes to scotcheroos and not having the correct name brand ingredients. He's really good at picking it out and it must be JIF!

Also, I was trying to see if I could find something online that said that you could buy butterscotch chips in Australia. I couldn't find them in the grocery stores near where I live, but that doesn't mean that it isn't elsewhere since the SupaBarn and IGA near me don't have that much stuff. Justine really liked scotcheroos, so I was going to show her how to make them, but I wanted to see if they even have butterscotch chips somewhere where she can get them. Anyway, it doesn't look like other people have found them based on the forums that I found online, but I found an awesome site called USAfoods.com.au. They are located in Melbourne and they sell American food. Sure it's expensive, but I can now get JIF peanut butter, Frank's Redhot, butterscotch chips, and other American foods without waiting for my parents to be awesome enough to send me a care package. Now I only need to do that for my BW3 sauces. Yay! Finding that website totally made up for the horribleness of finding ants in my peanut butter.

23 January 2013

Azkaban and Glee

I basically spent the day reading. We had "cat food" for lunch. Then I read some more and took a nap somewhere in there.

Rohan came home from work and he was in a hurry. He was making good-bye presents for some of his friends and then they were going to a good-bye dinner. He had to hurry up and finish and wrap them, so he enlisted the help of Elise and me. Then he went to dinner with his friends. I didn't go for two reason, 1. I didn't know where he was going/if I was invited until he was literally going out the door and Elise asked if I was going and 2. it was him saying good-bye to his friends so I would have felt weird being there and it seemed appropriate to give him time alone with his friends before leaving. It's still weird that we're not going to be dating long distance any more!

Instead, I stayed home with Elise and Justine. Rohan's parents had gone out as well. Elise cooked up some stuff that her mum got them for dinner. She thought that I was going to be gone as well, but it ended up that Justine only wanted half of her schnitzel, so we shared that. We also spent the night watching old episodes of Glee. There was so much from the first season that I completely forgot happened. I guess that's what happens where there's about 80 new story-lines per episode.

Then Rohan came home and I sat with him when we were done watching Glee. He was watching some live ustream thing from Nintendo. It was hilarious to watch his face when they announced the new games coming out for WiiU. His face lit up like a small kid on Christmas morning when they see the cute little puppy under the tree that Santa brought for them. And he said that he doesn't get excited about things!

After that, I read in bed until I went to sleep.

22 January 2013

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you like the heat, get in it!

Abstract:
I cooked dinner. No one died. I call that a success!

I didn't do much during the day. I watched some tv online and I basically just wasted time on pinterest.

I cooked dinner today, though. Justine was gone but everyone else was here. I decided to make some more pinterest stuff. I made something called "The World's Best Chicken," salt and vinegar potatoes, and some green vegetables. The World's Best Chicken had dijon mustard, maple syrup, and red wine vinegar. Rohan liked the fact that I used Canadian maple syrup because of the amount that I make fun of Canada. I can't help that I used a Canadian ingredient. That's the stuff that they had in the house and where else do you think of when you hear maple syrup? Although I guess it could be Vermont. They make a lot there, too. The potatoes were boiled in vinegar and then cooked in the oven. The vinegar taste was REALLY strong. I might want to dilute it next time, but live and learn. The chicken ended up pretty good and no one has died yet and Elise actually complimented me on it.

I also made scotcheroos while everything was in the oven. I had a craving for them the other day and I figured that I was cooking already so I might as well make them. Plus my mom sent me American peanut butter and some butterscotch chips for Christmas so that I could make them. She also sent me my very own scotcheroo tin. I think that officially makes me a Roth woman to have a designated scotcheroo tin. I put the scotcheroos in there and took a picture. No, I didn't already eat a whole bunch. I only made half of a batch. I'm sure they won't eat as many as if I made them for a Roth gathering! A half batch would have been gone within five minutes around my dad!

That's about it for excitement for the day. No one died so there wasn't anything too interesting. The title of the post was my response to Rohan saying that he knew why I liked to cook now... it's warm in the kitchen. My arms were actually warm for once. Every night I have to wear my jumper and knit socks around the house to stay warm.(Everyone else seems to think that this is hilarious!)

Now I'm just finishing up this post and I'll read some Prisoner of Azkaban before bed. G'night!

Lick me and leave me

Last night I finished the part of my memoir that covers bus trip and NTE 2010, so I spent the day today editing it. It's over 25 pages, so it took me from the time that I got up until after Rohan came home just to read through and edit it once. 25+ pages is a lot to read through.

I watched tv with Elise and Justine and Justine's friend that came over until we ate dinner. Rohan's parents were out, so Elise made dinner. It was a recipe that she had never made before, so she said that we were her guinea pigs. We haven't died yet so I think we're good. The recipe also called for chillies, so she had me cut them and remove the seeds for her because she was scared to do it herself. They weren't that hot. I'm pretty sure that they were just cayennes. The ones that were at the bottom of the roasting pan were pretty spicy once they got cooked, though. I will admit to that. I ate one anyway, though, because it's me and I like spicy.

After dinner, we watched Brave. Rohan wasn't going to watch it, but then he never saw it so he wanted to watch too. I had seen it on my plane ride to Perth back in September. It was still good. Rohan thought that it was hilarious. Saying that he liked it is definitely an understatement.

Then I spent some time on pinterest before going to bed. I'll spend some more time on it now that I'm in bed. I'm making dinner tomorrow night and it's difficult figuring out what to make that both of Rohan's sisters will eat. They have very different tastes.

I again couldn't think of a title, so it's in reference to Jasmine. She always comes over for attention, licks me to death, and then just leaves me sitting in the middle of the floor like a crazy person. Silly doggy!

Are there pigs flying?

Abstract:
Church was early. I had food today. They played Mahjong. There was tennis. Now I'm writing.

I woke up really early to go to church this morning. By really early, I mean 7:30. That is really early for me. They wanted to go to the early service today. Rohan asked me last night if I was going to go too or not and I told him that I'd set my alarm and see how I felt when it went off in the morning. I felt pretty awake, so I decided to get up and go.

When we got back, I took a nap. It was a good nap. Well, kind of. I did wake up in the middle and I remember dreaming during both naps and they were weird dreams that I didn't particularly enjoy. I woke up a bit before lunch.

We had quiche for lunch. I like quiche. I never had it before I came over to the Curries', though. Such a shame! Anyway, everyone was teasing Justine for eating such a large piece, but I believe that mine was actually the same size as hers. Ours were both just significantly larger than everyone else's pieces, but whatever. We still both ate our whole pieces.

A while after lunch, we played Mahjong, the actual tile game from Asia not at all like the computer game. Well, they played and I watched. It's a four person game and so Rohan, his dad, and his sisters played. I was "on Rohan's team" even though in reality I had no idea what was going on. He tried to explain but I'm slow at picking up new games.

Then I didn't feel well for a while, so I laid on the ground and went on pinterest on my phone. I felt better after a while, though. I think that it may have been that I had some chocolate since sometimes chocolate gives me a stomach ache. Then I watched Rohan play Mario and other stuff.

For dinner, we had leftovers. I ate some lasagna. That was good. I also like lasagna. I don't remember what I did after dinner, so I probably just went on pinterest some more.

When Rohan was going to go to bed,  he got stopped by watching tennis with his dad and sisters. I don't understand tennis apart from some basics that they taught us in ninth grade gym class, but this was the Australian Open and apparently it was a tense game. I kind of got that based on the fact that they were playing for five hours before someone won, but other than that I had no idea what was going on. It was really funny to see Rohan interested in sport, though. I don't see that very often. (And trust me, that's a good thing! I hate sports!)

Now I'm just writing my blog post and I'll probably write some more of my memoir. I'm so close to finishing this one section of it, 23 pages later.

I couldn't think of a title. I finally decided on this as a reference to the fact that Rohan's mum got a facebook today. That means that my mom can stop bugging me to make her get one. (She said she got it just to keep up-to-date with Rohan when he leaves, but it always starts that way...)

Cleaning Rohan's room: you never know what you'll find next!

I basically spent the day reading Prisoner of Azkaban, doing my laundry, or helping Rohan to pack. It was quite entertaining to watch him go through some pretty large boxes just jammed full of stuff. I don't think that I've ever seen as much stuff (and dust!) as I have when watching Rohan clean his room. My OCD personality just wants to clean and organise it all, but then again I'd probably just throw most of it away and that would be a bad thing since it's not mine to throw away. Did I ever mention how great it was to move to Australia and have to severely limit what I decided to keep in my life? Because it was great! (Even though I still have quite a bit at my parents' house, but I got rid of a ton of stuff and the stuff left is more important to me sentimentally that won't move until I know for sure that I'm staying.)

18 January 2013

"No, I'm turning into you!" -me "Yes, it's called dating."-Rohan

When I woke up, I went out to the TV room. Elise was watching tennis and on a fly killing spree. She finally found the spray to kill them in the air and she took great pleasure in spaying the annoying little creatures. I also got out my laptop and finally sent off my resume to Calvary and got a reply from my MARA agent about possible visa options.

Later, I watched Vampires Suck with Justine when she got home from work. They owned it, but Justine had never seen it because everyone else told her that it was dumb. I thought it was funny, though, so I watched it with her. It wasn't as good as I remembered, but it was still funny.

During the movie, we had mini pizza things where we made our own for lunch. I always think it's funny when we make pizza because Elise is scared of my pepperoni and I added hot sauce to it.
After the movie was done, I went into my room to read Chamber if Secrets and take a nap.

Then Rohan came home. We ate lasagna for dinner. I fed Jasmine her dinner after we ate. Then I watched Rohan play some video games before I decided to read some more. It was cold in the room by his computer but warmer where I sat to read.

After that I went to bed. I finished reading Chamber of Secrets in bed. I like rereading because you can find little hints of foreshadowing to later books that you never saw before. This time I noticed Malfoy telling Snape that he should be headmaster once Dumbledore was kicked out.

Now I'm just writing up my blog post on my phone before I go to sleep so that I won't forget what to write tomorrow.

The title is a part of a conversation that Rohan and I had when I said something that he always says. I believe it was "cake, cake, Severus cake" to the tune of the Potter Puppet Pal's Mysterious Ticking Noise.

The new Barbie Fashion Designer

Abstract:
I did some stuff that I had to do. I helped Rohan move some of his stuff. Sago is gross.

Rohan was home today. His friends were supposed to come over for an extended version The Lord of the Rings marathon, but his friends all had other commitments at the last minute. Rohan had never seen The Lord of the Rings, although I haven't either, and he bought the extended versions to rectify this. Instead of the marathon, Rohan worked on getting some of his stuff together for when the movers come on the 29th.

I spent the morning catching up on stuff I had to do. I worked on my resume to send to Calvary. I also sent a reply to my MARA representative and wrote my blog post for yesterday.

When I was done, I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening helping Rohan. He moved all of his video games and books to the study room. The piles are HUGE! And by huge I mean that they take up almost all of the free floor space in that room. It's going to take him forever to unpack all of that! Although he isn't OCD, so it won't take him as long as it would take me to unpack and organise it all. He also had to get stuff out of his junk room and had Justine climbing over all of the piles of stuff in there. It was funny.

Also, Rohan is such a tease! After the pile was huge and done, he told me that somewhere in there was a DVD of baby Rohan. I told him that I was going to spend tomorrow trying to go through the piles to find it. I guess it would be in the DVD piles and not the ones with the books or games. I'm just too lazy to actually find it. I'll just wait until he unpacks it all and finds it in Canberra. I will see it one day!

I think that's about it for the day. We also ate dinner and Rohan played the Sims. Oh and Rohan went to the store with his mum to go get some sago stuff that he wanted to make, but I stayed home. When he was gone, I made a lot of outfits for his Sim's wife and Rohan was teasing me for it. As much as I don't really care about my own fashion, I like to make outfits on games. My favourite computer game when I was little was Barbie Fashion Designer. That game was awesome.

When Rohan got home, he made the sago. He made me try it, but I didn't like it at all. It tasted like burnt sugar to me and then he made me try it before he added the other sugary stuff and it just tasted like little snotty grossness. But I tried it and that's all that should matter. Then I went to bed without writing this post because I was tired.

"You can all put your heads back in now."- Doctor Who behind the scenes

Abstract:
I went down to Margaret River with Rohan's mum, grandma, and Elise. We picked up Rohan for lunch. I took a nap when I got home. We watched an old Doctor Who special.

I woke up pretty early this morning because I was going to go out with Rohan's mum, grandma, and Elise. We left at about 9 to go pick up his grandma and then we went down to Margaret River. It's pretty far south, so it was quite a drive.

When we got there, we went to the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. It was funny to me because I had been there with my parents a little over two years ago when they came to visit me during my time at Murdoch. We went on this Aussie Extravaganza tour thingy that went to a bunch of different things to do around the Perth area, such as Caversham wildlife park and wine tasting. We also went to the chocolate factory. I didn't realise that was where we were going until we got there and it looked familiar.

I sampled some of the white chocolate chips because I don't like plain chocolate and white chocolate isn't real chocolate. They were good, but I didn't get anything. Rohan's grandma bought us all ice cream when we were there, though. I got cookies and cream. It was weird because the ice cream was yellow instead of the normal white.(Although the cookie parts were still brown and normal.) It also had a bit of a different flavour, but it grew on me.

Then we went to "the grape man." That's what they call the guy that they always go to for their grapes.  Grapes are so much cheaper in WA. That's because they grow them and make a lot of wine in Margaret River, but it makes me sad. I love grapes. I'll just have to eat a bunch here before I leave. They also got some rockmelon (aka cantaloupe to my American readers) at the grape man.

When we were on our way back, we stopped at some nougat place. I had never had nougat before, but they also had a free sample. I tried the soft vanilla one. It was pretty good. It has almonds in it and I love almonds. I also tried a bit of Rohan's grandma's lemon one, but I liked the vanilla a lot better. The lemon one kind of tasted like the lemon Girl Scout cookies.

After the nougat place, we went back to Perth for lunch. We called up Rohan to see if he wanted to join us. Since he was working, he hadn't looked at his phone by the time we got there. Elise and her grandma went inside to go and get him. Then we went to Ten Ten House, which is an Asian place near where Rohan works. He got this really nasty looking soup that he apparently thinks is awesome. I got some chili chicken wings. They were yummy.

Then Elise and I stayed at home when Rohan's mum went to go pick up Justine to take her somewhere. After a little bit, I knew that I couldn't stay awake, so I went to take a nap. It was a really long nap and I didn't wake up until like 5:30.

A little after I woke up, Rohan came home from work. Then we ate dinner. After dinner, Rohan's mum wanted to continue my Doctor Who education and we watched this old episode called The Five Doctors. It was the first five doctors and they somehow all got brought together or something. It was from 1983 and so the special effects were horrible. We also watched some of the special features. One of them was about how they did the "(not-so) special effects." It was hilarious because they had to do it all without the use of computers and modern technology. The title was one of the quotes from a special effect that they showed the behind the scenes for. They had to literally place their heads into position to make them look like statues. I honestly cannot explain how much the special effects made me laugh.

After that, I watched Rohan play The Sims. His Sim got married. Rohan wanted to make the event swimwear, but I told him that it should be formal wear. Then we both went to bed.

15 January 2013

Rohan is just intuitively nerdy

I didn't too much exciting today. I showered and I worked on editing my resume for Calvary Hospital so that they can send it around and I might be able to get a job out of it. Then I got tired and took a nap. Rohan came home later. The family ate dinner and a family friend came over.

Then I watched Rohan play The Sims. The game kept messing up and Rohan was trying to figure out the problem by looking online. Then he went to the notepad thingy-ma-bob that shows how the game is running but doesn't really make sense to anyone else. He somehow figured out what was wrong with it based on that despite the fact that he never learned how to do that. He was really confused how he figured that out and was acting like he shouldn't have been able to do that. I just told him that he was special.

Now I'm just writing up my blog post and I'll try to get to bed at a reasonable time because I'm going somewhere with Rohan's mum and grandma tomorrow morning.

14 January 2013

Compulsory post

I spent the morning in bed. I was sleeping and then reading. Then Elise came and asked me if I wanted lunch. They were getting KFC. I got dressed and went out to the tv room to read. Justine was watching tennis while Elise and her mum went to KFC to get the food. Then we ate and then I continued to read for a while.

Then I got cold from the air con, so I went into my room. I read until I fell asleep for a while. Then I got up and went back out to the tv room. Rohan came home later. We ate dinner. I spent the night watching him play Sonic racing. That was about it. Now I'm kind of in the mood to write some of my memoir, though, so I'll probably do that until I decide to sleep.

13 January 2013

I have a pinterest obsession

I woke up at around 5 this morning and I wasn't tired. I knew that there was no way that I would be able to stay awake if I woke up, though, so I decided to stay in bed. I went on my computer and uploaded the pictures from yesterday and wrote my blog post for yesterday. I might as well been productive during that time. Then I fell back asleep.

I woke up again at about noon. I stayed in bed for a while and finally actually got up around two. Then I went to go find Rohan. I basically spent the rest of the day watching him play Sims. It was really funny because all of the girl characters kept asking his character on dates, but they were all either married or in a relationship. They were very persistent, though. It was hilarious. I kept making fun of him for being just so darn attractive. We also ate dinner and that was about it for today. I also spent a lot of the day on pinterest on my phone. That's what I'm doing now before I go to sleep. I may or may not have a problem. It makes me want to make all sorts of cute little crafts and desserts.

Gummy bear and good-byes

Abstract:
Rohan had a big going-away party. This should be an eventful post!

So I woke up and showered and then went to help finish getting ready for the party. The goal of the party, apart from the main purpose of a going-away party, was to eat the giant 10kg gummy bear that Rohan got for his birthday last year. He didn't want to have to bring it to Canberra and eat it himself, so his going-away party seemed like the perfect time to eat it. When I got up, I ended up going with Justine down to IGA to pick up some things. We mostly got some extra chips but we also got stuff to make sherbet to put in the bear's belly since it is hollow to hold something. This really confused me because the only sherbet I know is the frozen stuff. I guess it's also a powder. That actually explains quite a bit of the lollies in Australia since many of them say sherbet.

Justine and I actually had a successful trip. We didn't have to loop around the store like five times to find everything or anything like that. (Although we did forget the extra gummy bears to put in its belly, but that didn't really matter in the end.) Also, I was really confused when we needed to get jelly crystals for the sherbet but apparently that's what a pack of Jell-O is. Well, it wasn't Jell-O brand, but still. Who knew! (And, yes, I realise a lot of people probably do, but I didn't.)

When we got back, we helped with some other stuff. Rohan's mum also made the Michigan pasta salad that my parents sent over as part of their Christmas present. It was funny because his mum was acting like she was going to mess up cooking it because it was foreign pasta and she was checking with me to make sure she was following the recipe that came with it. I had no idea because I never made it before, but Rohan's mum is a good cook and it was just pasta. She kept having me try it. It was pretty good.

Then people started to come. Ruby was the first one there for a while since she was a bit early and all of the rest of Rohan's friends are always late. (Elise, Justine, and I were kind of taking bets on how late Scott would be. Justine said 1/2 hour and Elise said 45 minutes. Elise was pretty close since he was about 50-ish minutes late.) Rohan took the first bite of the gummy bear before most people showed up. He Mike Tyson-ed it. He just grabbed the ear and took a bite, but he then cut off the piece where he bit it. That bear was very difficult to cut because it was so dense. We also had a camera set up on a tripod so that we could take pictures of the bear after each cut and then Rohan's going to turn it into a video to watch it being devoured. Rohan also cut some other pieces. I had him cut me one since I'm weak. He always had to cut it for me. It was actually pretty good. It was cherry flavoured. Cherry is a hit or miss flavour for me, but I liked this one.

The party was a lot of fun. Judging from the facebook group, there was about 30-something people there. They did all sorts of stuff like board games, card games, the WiiU, and go swimming. Rohan's mum made some sausages and onions for lunch, along with other stuff like the pasta salad. I spent most of the time before lunch talking to people in the kitchen and going around taking pictures. Then I watched them play the WiiU when Rohan started playing. They were playing games where it was everyone against Rohan because he was playing as the character on the gamepad. It was funny because he was totally kicking their butts and it was four against one.

Later in the afternoon, we went out by the pool to talk to the people in there. When we went out there, Scott was sharing his story of how he and Kate started dating. Then Daniel told the story of him and his girlfriend. Then Carina told hers. Then they wanted to hear Rohan's. I said that I wouldn't tell them because I, too, wanted to hear Rohan's version of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rohan was just a little slow, and by a little I mean a lot, so I like when he shares it. I get sympathy for having to wait. They all said that I had patience but Rohan says that it's just because I'm stubborn. Yeah, that's true. I did not want to be the one to bring it up. He's the guy and that's his job. The only reason that I brought it up was that I was impatient. (But who wouldn't be after over five months!)

We were just sitting on the edge of the pool with our feet hanging in. Then Rohan decided that it would be a great idea to dump Justine in. (This was after he was threatening to throw me in by dangling me over the water. Luckily he has a good grip, but I gave him a death stare to make him stop.) After he dumped her in, I kind of ran. I was sitting between them and I did not want to get stuck in the crossfire. Rohan also ran. He ran down the block to avoid being thrown in the water himself. I then ran to get my camera and then follow the mob of people chasing Rohan to throw him in the water.

When I got there, they already had him and were walking him back as a prisoner. He tried to get free a few too many times, so they had to go to more extreme measures than just holding his arms. First they held his legs, too. Then he looked like he was going to be quartered and he was still flailing. They then proceeded to put him in a headlock and walk him to the pool. I stayed out of the gate this time. I was at a safe picture taking distance. At first it was just Rohan and Justine in the pool area battling it out. Rohan threw Justine back into the water. He couldn't escape, though. They then chased each other around the pool some more. Rohan taunted her by sitting in the chair and then tried to use it as a shield. Then Naxtens came out of no where, grabbed Rohan, and jumped into the pool. He sacrificed himself for the greater good of dumping Rohan in the pool. At one point, Rohan actually tried to use me as protection. I wasn't going to help. He was the one that dumped Justine in and he had it coming.

After Rohan got dumped in, I ran inside to make sure that he didn't have a chance to try and hug me. He likes to do that when he's soaking wet. Instead he went straight into the bathroom to dry off. I had to then go in his room and find dry clothes for him because he didn't want to get water everywhere and Justine wasn't going to help since he dumped her in in the first place. Rohan is such a trouble maker.

Then we went in and ate pizza that Rohan's mum ordered. She got some pepperoni for me. I was happy because there's almost never pepperoni pizza in Australia. It's so sad. I think some people were playing WiiU when we ate dinner.

Later, when it was just Justine, Elise, Ruby, Daniel, Naxtens, Rohan, and me, we played Lips, the singing game. That was a lot of fun. Justine and Elise were having sisterly battles and Daniel and Naxtens were having brotherly battles. They were funny. The highlight of playing Lips for me was definitely singing Lucky as a duet with Rohan. I first heard that song on Glee but I don't think that I bought it right away. It wasn't until after I had met Rohan that I really liked the song and realised that it was perfect for us. I wanted to sing it with him ever since. It made me very happy. I also sang The Climb again with Rohan. It's funny when I sing that song because I get kind of a southern accent, similar to Miley's. Rohan was making fun of me for it, but I think it's hilarious. He said that I get an American accent, but I'm pretty sure that my default accent is an American accent, so I get a southern accent.

Then it was 10, so we had to stop singing. Justine and Elise went to bed and Ruby, Daniel, and Naxtens left. Then Rohan, his parents, and I cleaned up before going bed. It was a long and eventful day, which is why I didn't write up this post last night.

11 January 2013

Rohan gave me permission to take pictures tomorrow!

Abstract:
We went out to breakfast. I took a nap. We played some stuff.

The whole family went out to breakfast today. I had a really hard time falling asleep last night/this morning, so I had a way harder time getting up and staying awake than I should have. We went to The Left Bank in Freo. (Freo is Fremantle) I got bacon and eggs with orange juice to drink. Rohan's family was all shocked when I didn't get apple juice. I prefer orange juice with my breakfast, though. After breakfast, we went on a little walk along the shore. They said that they wanted to walk to some sign, but everyone else turned around when they got to the car park where the sign was. That wasn't good enough for Rohan. He wanted to go to the sign. We continued to walk to the middle of the car park so that we could touch the sign. It was too high for me, though, so Rohan had to lift me up.

We were initially going to go bowling after breakfast, but no one was really that keen to go. Instead we went home. Then we played Ticket to Ride. I don't think I came in last this time. I still didn't bother adding up my score, but Rohan's dad added his and it seemed that I beat him based on a rough estimate of my points when Rohan looked at them.

Then I had to take a nap because I was exhausted. I don't do well with little sleep. My nap ended up being a few hours and I was still tired. I just knew that if I slept more I wouldn't have been able to sleep tonight.

After my nap, I watched Rohan play some games until it was dinner time. We ate. Then I watched Rohan play more games. Then my head and stomach started hurting. I decided to lay on the floor because I wanted to lay down. I didn't want to go lay in bed because then I would have fallen asleep and wouldn't have been able to sleep tonight. I also didn't want to lay on the couch because I'm not always that much of a fan of couches. It bothers me that there is a back if I'm trying to lay down because then I can't look either way. Basically I'm just weird. Take my word for it...I used to sleep on a plastic box for a good portion of my life when I was in elementary school because I thought that it was more comfortable than my bed. (embarrassing confession #1) I also sometimes find myself trying to sleep on the floor if I can't get to sleep in my bed.

When I was laying on the floor, Rohan's mum came over and thought that I was crazy or something. Then Rohan tried to help to get my mind off of my stomach hurting. He decided to do that by getting me to play Lips with him. That sounds kind of inappropriate for my blog, but it's a singing game on the Xbox. That was pretty fun. Shortly after the first song started, Elise and Justine came to watch. Elise also played with us and so we took turns since there were only two mics. I kind of sucked at it mostly because I was bad at remembering to shake the microphone when I needed to. I didn't know a lot of the songs and Rohan was really confused that I knew The Climb by Miley Cyrus. It was kind of funny. I actually really like that song and have it on my zune. (embarrassing confession #2) Also, it was extremely funny to listen to Rohan sing some of the really high girl parts of songs.

After a while, Rohan's parents went to bed, so we had to be quieter. We then played some Lego Harry Potter. I didn't completely suck at it. It probably helps that I have the other Lego Harry Potter game on my 3DS and the controls were similar.

Then Rohan and I talked before heading off to bed. During that conversation, we realised that "What Child Is This" is actually "Greensleeves." We realised this because some stupid ice cream truck or something kept playing it outside this afternoon. Then Rohan was singing it again to get it in my head again. Such a sweetheart! Rohan told me that it was Greensleeves and I told him that I thought it was What Child Is This. Then we looked it up online and found out that they are actually the same tune, but obviously different lyrics. That made a lot more sense because I didn't know why they would be playing a Christmas song now.

Now I've basically got to try to get to bed so that I can wake up at a reasonable time tomorrow. Rohan is having his going away party in the afternoon. He made a deal with me that if I take pictures with him and everyone at his party I get to have two posed pictures. He absolutely hates posed pictures, so this is exciting for me. I try not to force him to take pictures, but now I get permission. And Rohan tried to offer this to me as a deal and the way that he said that he wanted to make a deal with me sounded all scary and stuff. I was nervous, but it's a total win. I see no down side to this deal. Why wouldn't I take it?

10 January 2013

Now I know how to torment Rohan...

Abstract:
I sent some emails. Rohan really likes food. His parents really like to torture him with the thought of good food.

I spent the day in my room. I read for a bit and then I showered. Then I was actually productive. I filled out my information for my classes next semester. They sent us a sheet to fill out and then we had to email it to them and they will enrol us. All of our classes are only offered at one time, but the timetables haven't been finalised, which means I won't know them for a while.

I also finally got around to emailing back my MARA rep person. That's a person that's certified to help you get a visa/migration and stuff. I first contacted them a while back, but then with my possible career path change thingy, I wanted to wait and never got around to filling out the questionnaire and emailing him back.

Then I went and sat in the tv room while Elise and Rohan's dad were watching tennis. I just played on my phone. Then Rohan got home. Then we ate dinner. Rohan's parents were tormenting him with the food that they ate when they were away. It was hilarious because Rohan was so jealous. After dinner, his mum was showing him some menus online and he was getting even more jealous. It was hilarious. I probably should not have taken as much pleasure in it as I did. You could tell that his parents were enjoying it, too.

I don't remember anything else in particular happening, so I probably just spent the rest of the night watching Rohan play video games. Now I'm going to go to bed at a reasonable time because we're going out to breakfast and then bowling tomorrow.

09 January 2013

Let's make Janice jealous!

Abstract:
I slept. I read. I pinterested. I shopped. I cooked. I ate. I Doctor Who'd.

I was super duper lazy getting up today and I kind of altered between reading and sleeping. I eventually got out of bed, but no one was home. Justine was at some thing to get certified to teach swimming and then Elise was at a friend's house. I just ate some lunch and then Justine got back. She was watching some tv, so I half watched with her and half went on pinterest on my phone. I got the app so that I could go to the pin that I had for the recipe that I was making for dinner without needing to open my laptop.

Then Elise came home and she had some of her friends with her. Her friends left and then Justine left and then Elise started watching tennis. I finally got off my lazy butt and went down to the store to get stuff for dinner. I needed to make sure that I got it in time to let it marinade. I decided on making balsamic chicken with asparagus. It was one of the only recipes on my pinterest that wasn't spicy, which meant that Elise would eat it, and looked reasonably easy. I was originally supposed to make this meal for Janice about a month ago, before I left. I felt sick, though, so I wasn't able to make it for her. I knew that it would make her jealous if I made it for Rohan's family. I texted her after I ate and I was right. She was uber duber jealous.

When I got back, I set up the chicken to marinade and then I went on pinterest again on my phone. Then Rohan got home and I decided to start cooking a little after that. I decided to cook the chicken in the oven, so I had to wait for that to be done before I could do the rest, which was annoying. It ended up pretty good. I didn't kill Elise or Rohan at least! But now I know some variations for next time. I definitely want to marinate smaller pieces of chicken, I don't like cooking whole breasts anyway, and I should have cooked more asparagus. I love asparagus.

After dinner, we continued my Doctor Who education. We're now somewhere in the first season of the tenth Doctor. At this pace, we'll never get caught up, but oh well.  Then Rohan and I talked before he went to bed and I went to write my post and go online and stuff.

"Technically, I squished the bug in your eye." -Rohan

I spent almost the whole day finishing Philosopher's Stone. I woke up pretty late and then I finished reading it at about 5:30. Then I went out and watched tv with Elise and Justine until Rohan got home from work. Rohan's parents are out of town for the next couple of days, so it was just us "kids."

Then we ate dinner. Elise cooked fajitas. I'm going to make dinner tomorrow. That should be an adventure since Elise doesn't like spicy things. At least she likes meat, though. Justine will be gone for dinner tomorrow so at least that might make it easier since they hardly agree on anything.

After dinner, we watched some more Game of Thrones. I still find it really confusing. Justine left a couple of minutes in because she didn't see the first couple of episodes and so she was more lost than me.

Then Rohan went to play video games and I watched. There were also a few annoying mosquitoes flying around us. There was one that landed on my face and then Rohan squished it on me. I thought that it was on my cheek, but evidently he squished it in my eye. Then the dead bug fell down my shirt. I couldn't find it for a while until I found the corpse of the mosquito on my stomach when I went to get up later. Yuck!

Rohan went to bed and now I'm just writing up this blog post and looking up potential recipes to make for dinner tomorrow.

Skippy the bush kangaroo

Abstract:
I like the heat and I like Harry Potter. There was also some kangaroo thrown in there.

Rohan went back to work today. I slept in for most of the day. Then I started to read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I wanted to reread the series for a while, but obviously I didn't bring my books over from the US since that would have taken up a ridiculous amount of space when I wasn't even sure how long I would be in Australia for. Anyway, Rohan has them, so I can read them now!

I spent most of the day in bed reading and I actually had a quilt on too. That's crazy because the air con didn't go into the bedroom and the high today was 37C, which is 98.6F. The only time that I went in the air conditioned room was when I ate lunch. When I say that I like the heat, I mean that I like the heat.

Rohan got home from work later. Apparently everyone else thought that it was hot, so Rohan, his sisters, and his dad went swimming. Then some family friends came over right before we ate dinner. Part of the dinner was kangaroo. They called it "Skippy" because apparently Skippy was a kangaroo on a tv show from the 60s. Rohan's mum was showing me the intro to the show from youtube before dinner. I had kangaroo a few times before, but apparently it's supposed to be really rare so that it doesn't get tough. I don't like my meat that rare. I tried it, but then I gave it to Rohan and just ate the beef instead. We also had ice cream. I actually put toppings on my ice cream instead of just eating vanilla. It's almost like I'm becoming normal!

Then I pretty much watched Rohan play the Sims for the rest of the night until he went to bed. At that point I continued to read some more Harry Potter and write this post.

Voldemort-flakes

Abstract:
We played games. We went to church. We went to maccas. We watched Harry Potter.

Today, I caught up on a couple of days of my blog. Rohan also somehow got me to play Sonic on the Xbox. I played as the evil characters, because that's just me. I'm a Slytherin for a reason. It was very difficult for me because it was one where you could move 3d and I didn't like that. I like the flat games. They're easier on my head. I also had a bout of depression during which I decided that I needed to go back on antidepressants once I go back to Canberra. I don't have any more left, so I'll have to go to a doctor and stuff to get a new prescription. Oh joys!

I also spent some time today watching Rohan play other games. He played the Sims and Scribblenauts. Scribblenauts is this game where you have a notebook thing and you can basically tell it anything and it will make it for you. You can also design objects if they don't already exist on there and then it will exist in the future. Well, one of the tasks was to feed a cannibal. First Rohan fed it a teenager. Then he decided that it would be funny to feed it me. He the proceeded to make a "Caitlin" that looked like me that he could feed to the cannibal. I then made a "Rohan" but he didn't feed that to the cannibal. The generic boy looked surprisingly like Rohan, so I didn't need to change too much. It was kind of weird.

Later, Justine asked us if we wanted to go with her to evening church. We didn't go in the morning and Naxtens was giving the sermon, so we decided to go. After church, we talked to people. It's mostly teens and young adults that go to that service, so I knew quite a few people from either Rohan's or Justine's friends. Some people decided to then go to maccas afterwards.

When we first got there, Rohan wanted to go to Utopia to get a bubble tea. Then we went to maccas to catch up with everyone. They all got "food" but I waited to eat until we went home. I say "food" because I don't think you can call maccas real food. Rohan also made me try some of his bubble tea. It was disgusting. I had to eat a Jolly Rancher from my purse to get the taste out of my mouth. I really don't think that I will ever find a tea that I like, but he's determined. I don't think he'll ever let me just say that I don't like tea.

We went home at about 9:30ish. There was left over from dinner for us to eat. I was happy because I was really hungry and there was no way that I was eating maccas. They were also watching Deathly Hallows part 2 when we got back. My ears perked up when I walked through the doorway and heard "Slytherin" on the tv. I ate my dinner while watching the rest of the movie. Whenever I watch that movie and Voldemort becomes lots of little flakes as he is dying, I always think to myself that I would totally keep some Voldemort-flakes if I was there. Can you possibly have a better souvenir if you fought in that battle? I honestly don't think so. It's a piece of Voldemort!

Anyway, that brings me to now and I'm just going to finish writing this post and then probably go to sleep. Yay for actually writing my blog post on the day! Rohan goes back to work tomorrow, so that may be happening more now that he'll need to go to bed earlier. Anyway, I'm exhausted so good night!

Things you're afraid of: Caitlin

Abstract:
We went to a breakfast thing that ended up being most of the day. We also played games all day and I got re-addicted to Sonic.

We had to wake up really early to go to breakfast. Rohan's friend Jae, who I also knew from bus trip two years ago, has a breakfast over at his house once a month so that he can catch up with some friends after he left uni. Rohan's mum gave us a lift to Liz's house. She had a friend that also came and then we went to pick up Ruby and she took us all to Jae's. We were the first ones there. He had bacon, eggs, and sausages. I just ate some bacon.

People were slowly trickling in, and after everyone got there, we played games. The first game we played was Scattergories. Finally it was a game that I've actually heard of! (We've been to a lot of things where they play games and I've never heard of most them. We play very different games in America, evidently.) I've played Scattergories a lot and my family has a bit of an inside joke with it. Quite a long time ago, my family was playing it and the letter was R. The category was "things you hide." My grandma, rest in peace, said "rolls of fat." Anyway, I played that and I tied with Jae for last place. Words aren't exactly my strong suit. Also, the title of this post comes from that game because "Caitlin" was Rohan's answer to things you're afraid of. He's not actually afraid of me, despite the death stare that I tried to give him when he read his answer. He said that he doesn't think that I'm capable of being scary.

Then they played Dixit, but I just watched. I'm not good at just coming up with things based on pictures and I didn't get it. But I played Greed when they played that. It's a dice game and you have to get to 5000 first by rolling certain combinations. Rohan and I were having immense difficulties even getting started with our points because you have to roll 500 points before it starts counting. When I finally got it, I did something really stupid and continued to roll which then caused me to lose all of my points that hand and I still couldn't start counting them yet. I eventually got on the board, but Rohan and I were really far behind. We basically just competed with each other.

After Greed, everyone else wanted to go see Life of Pi. Rohan and I didn't want to, so we got dropped off at the train station and took the train back. I still had money on my TransPerth card. Score! When we got to the Perth city stop, Rohan decided that he wanted to get bubble tea. We got off the train to get some and then got back on the next one. It was pretty perfect timing. Then Rohan's mum came to pick us up from the train station.

When we got back to Rohan's house, his grandma was there. Apparently when she put her Christmas tree away, she found some presents that she forgot to give us. They were little glass animals. I got an owl.

After his grandma left, I took a nap until dinner. Then we ate and played Ticket to Ride. I was doing really good in the beginning of the game because I was getting big trains, but then I kind of sucked. I didn't even bother trying to figure out my score at the end because counting looked like too much work and it wasn't as if I was close to winning anyway.

Then Rohan was playing some Sonic driving type game thingy. It made me want to play Sonic again, so I got my DS games out. I started playing Sonic Rush Adventure and I finally figured out what I was supposed to be doing instead of wandering aimlessly like I was a couple of years ago when I first got the game and was playing it. Then it was late and I was tired so I went to bed.

How am I supposed to make a title for this?

I don't remember anything particularly exciting happening today. That's the problem with not writing these on the day, but I didn't feel well that night. I remember going straight to bed because I had heartburn and that's about all that I can remember now. Pretty exciting, right?

Doesn't everyone get the urge to put a chip in their girlfriend's ear?

Abstract:
I always seem to have phone issues; celebratory dinner.

Well, my phone was completely dead when I woke up this morning. It hasn't been charging all the time when I plug it into the charger, but it wasn't all the time and I didn't know why. The charger ended up not working at all over the night and my phone was absolutely dead. I was worried that I'd have to take it back to Vodafone and then they'd give me that hideous pink one to use while they shipped my phone up to get repaired.

Luckily as I was getting dressed, I realised that I may have actually brought my cord to plug my phone into my computer. I went through my computer case and found the cord! I thought that I had left it in Canberra. I turned on my computer and that cord was working as a charger, so I knew that it was my charger that was broken and not my phone. While it is still annoying and I should probably get a new wall charger, at least I can live with just using the USB one.

Then we ate lunch and Rohan went out with his mum. I just went to go on my computer and watched Boy Meets World while my phone charged. It takes a long time to charge from nothingness!

For dinner, we went out to celebrate. There were a bunch of little things, but the main reason was because Justine got her scores for her tests after year 12 and to attend uni back last week. She picked Italian because that's her favourite, so we went to Bella Rosa. We went to pick up Rohan's grandma and then went to the restaurant. I got some chicken penne with spinach and a creamy sauce. It was pretty good. And when Rohan stole some of my drink, his grandma yelled at him and it was funny. Oh, and also Rohan told me at some point that he just got the urge to put one of the chips from his dinner into my ear. What a weirdo! (and when will people learn to be careful what they say around me or it may end up on my blog...)

That's pretty much all of the excitingness that happened today. I'm just watching some more Boy Meets World and writing up my blog for the day before I go to bed.

02 January 2013

Too bad my phone wouldn't charge to let me post earlier...

I started to catch up with my blog posts in the morning. Rohan and his dad went out, so then I was talking with his sisters and mum to decide what we wanted for lunch. I don't think that Elise and Justine like any of the same foods. We ended up getting KFC. When they got back with the food, we watched some Glee together. I also finished catching up with my blog posts.

For dinner, Rohan had a birthday dinner for one of his friends from Dungeons and Dragons and I went with him to that. It was at some pizza place. I got hot wings, although they weren't that hot. They also had birthday cake. Then we got a ride home from one of his other friends that was there.

When we got home, I watched Rohan play some video games and then I pet Jasmine for a long time. She's just so cute and fluffy! Then I went to bed because my stomach was really hurting.

Even "Sugar Rush" is better than a French accent!

Abstract:
We went to a New Year's Day party, well, after I slept for a really long time.

Since I didn't go to bed until 4, I slept in for a long time. Rohan came to wake me up and ask me if I wanted to go with him to Bek's party. It was at the house that she's been house-sitting. I decided why not, so I had to go quickly put my laundry in so that it would be done washing and I could put it out to dry before leaving. Naxtens came before my laundry was done washing, so Rohan asked someone in his family to do it for me.

When we got to Bek's, most people decided to go in the pool. Rohan doesn't like the sun and I don't like the water, so we stayed inside. Rohan was helping to teach me strategy in Citadels by playing two player and stuff. It's a weird game to play with two people. After they went swimming for a while, most of the people came back in and we played some other games. I got revenge on Naxtens and killed his graveyard in Citadels because he did the same thing to me the night before. It was just sad that he had to leave during that time so really I destroyed his teammate's graveyard.

Then dinnertime came and Rohan and Owen decided to make dinner. Bek and I watched and it was quite entertaining. They decided to make Chicken Kiev, which I had never heard of before. It was really funny to see them at work. They also made potatoes, onions, fried/breaded feta, and garlic bread. It was surprisingly edible! (and it actually tasted good, too, it wasn't just edible)

While we were waiting for it to cook, they played a game of Monty Python Fluxx. It was really weird and one of the cards was to talk in a fake accent. Rohan did a French accent. We paused the game when dinner was ready, but he kept up his accent. I really don't like French accents and it was driving me insane. I would have rather that Rohan was singing Sugar Rush than speaking in a French accent. I was glad when the game was finally over and he could stop with the accent.

When we went home, it was misting. That was unfortunate because my clothes weren't able to dry. I just had to bring them in and put them in the dryer. Then I went to bed when my clothes were finally dry.
